A teacher’s lesson for 35 years: service matters more than party | PennLive letters

I taught for 35 years, mostly gifted education and fifth grade, and the first thing it taught me was that the label on a child’s folder tells you almost nothing about them.

Twenty-five years ago my husband and I signed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and, unusually, one of the boys lived with us through high school. We also hosted seven foreign exchange students. I love every one of them like my own, and they still call.
